The new™ VashonGreen.org uses the free, open-source DotNetNuke as the underlying portal engine providing rich functionality. Authorized volunteers can now easily edit the site and add their own content.
DotNetNuke allows non-technical people to:
- Register on the site with their name and password (and things like address and phone - if required by the webmaster)
- Get added to various roles, such as Registered User, Volunteer and Administrator - each of which is granted various roles
- Create and maintain web pages (if granted the Volunteer or Page Editor role), and add "modules" to their pages.
Although most pages simply have HTML/Text modules, advanced modules are available for free and sale through the DotNetNuke community. Examples of these modules include this Blog module, our event calendar, or the respository we use to allow download of our organizational minutes. Photo galleries, eCommerce stores, discussion forums and much more are readily available and provide instant, tested functionality - backed by a vibrant community of professionals and volunteers.
Our thanks to the DotNetNuke community which makes so much available so readily to organizations such as our own.
